Dear list,

long time no see.

I've been working on some (really basic :) augmented reality stuff for the last few days which I want to be presented in a POS style fashion, e.g. a portrait oriented display with a hidden, mounted (USB) camera.
After reading a few reviews I opted for an Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro.
The camera and is especially suited for OSX and the image quality in QT based apps ist amazing (2 MP sensor, Zeiss lens, AF, low noise, good low-light and whatnot).
But:
For some reason Quartz Composer captures the signal of the Logitech camera in its native video size, e.g. 1600x1200 pixels. Which - assuming this is an uncompressed (YCrCb or the like) video stream - easily saturates the USB bus.
Which leads to a frame rate of 5-6 fps.
As this is a driverless "USB video class" camera there's no preferences app to setup or fiddle with. The image of the built-in iSight is captured at 640x480 pixels in QC, even though the iSight has a higher native video size (1280x1024 if I remember correctly).

So, pretty long story, two short questions.

1. After I returned the Logitech camera, what kind of external (UVC) video cam can you recommend for use with QC?
I'm thinking XBox Live Video Cam (which seems to be 640x480 native).

2. Is there an alternative video input patch where you can modify the capture/output size?

Thanks in advance,
Oliver
