First time I tried to create/save a macro in QC4, having trouble.
What's the proper procedure? What/where/how are virtual macros stored?

[note: your follow up email looks like you more or less discovered this already -- posting this for posterity]

procedure: arrange relevant patches as you wish (with appropriately published inputs and outputs). create a macro of it (so the published inputs/outputs are inputs/outputs of the macro). select the macro in the editor, click "add to library" on the tool bar.

You'll get a dialog asking for the name (what the patch creator will refer to it as), copyright, and description. Fill in as you see fit.

Composition is now saved as a virtual macro in ~/Library/Graphics/ Quartz Composer Patches/[name you tilled in].qtz (along with all your rad kineme plugins! ;).

Additionally, any composition that makes use of your virtual patch will embed it in the composition itself incase you remove the virtual macro some day.

Does that fill in the blanks?

Sorry for newb-ness... Jerry

no need to apologize for things being weird and unexpected -- file bug reports instead against usability (if it's sufficiently non-obvious and undocumented) ;)
