Now, in trying it on the most recent Mac Mini's, I am experiencing Quartz Composer spontaneously quitting. I believe the message I received wasn't a crash message, but a "Quartz Composer Quit Unexpectedly" type of message.
Quit Unexpectedly = crash, as far as I recall :) (it could be a setting that isn't set to show you crash reports -- don't remember off the top of my head though).
Look in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports for the crash log, it could be informative.
Interestingly, this is one type of composition that I am currently getting much better performance out of SL than Leopard, save for the fact that it seems unstable.
