Hello George,

thank you for pointing me in the direction of "private patches". Its been a while when I was looking into the library of hidden patches and it has some surprises for me.

Actually I tried to do my own "backdrop" thing some times ago because I thought Apple did it "outside of QC". But here it is! Looking into the Photo Booth package you can find a composition called "Backdrops". In this composition the "Backdrops" patch is used and shows that the "Resolution" input isn't connected at all. So it is implemented on the "do the right thing"-bases :-). From here it was easy to use this particular patch to create my own composition with a "remove backdrop"- option from a video source.

Unfortunately the other Backdrop patches aren't used neither in "Photo Booth" nor in "iChat" so I couldn't figure out what they are doing and how to use them.

What did you learn about those patches? What are you trying to do with them? Maybe there is another solution to your problem without using those patches?

Could I please get feedback, and possibly an example, on the type of structure that I need to create to successfully feed the Input Resolution structure input on the Backdrops Options patch?

I can tell that the Options input on the various Backdrops subpatches need to be fed with the output from the Backdrops Options patch, which in turn needs to be fed with a structure that feeds the Input Resolution parameter on the Backdrops Options patch. I also see that the Noise Statistics inputs can be fed from the Noise Statistics output from the Backdrops Accumulator patch. However, this all hinges on getting the proper resolution structure to the Backdrop Options patch.

I understand that this is an undocumented plugin, maybe we shouldn't be using it in QC, etc., etc., but it's here and I would like some specs on it, if possible.

Best,
George Toledo
