Looks like a documentation bug -- .qtzs in ~/Lib/Screen Savers will only show up in System Preferences. To get them to work in iChat and friends, they need to go in ~/Lib/Compositions/ (The Composition Repository lives there, not in ~/Library/Screen Savers).
