Interesting point about the backwards evaluation, Achim.

Alistair, your patch works for me as I thought it should in the first place,
though may not hold up to prolonged use?
Actually the counter had stopped responding to watcher / pulses in a
completely separate comp earlier in my day, and only worked properly with
the Signal patch.
