To derivate from the useful hotkey combo suggestions for a moment: One aspect that is notable about the QuickFire clip is how one can type a word in a field, and then "do something" to change the image. I note the example of adding blur to something.
That doesn't make too much sense in the context of the QC editor, when viewed as a whole, because a search term like "blur" or "scale" could apply to many objects on the Editor. If one had to select a patch first, to narrow search scope, I'm still not sure that there would be an advantage over manipulating the input ports in the way we do now. Where this seems like it would be very interesting is in application to the Interaction editing method of editing objects in SL (available via the Viewer). Currently, one can move objects around in the Viewer. It would be interesting to be able to type and call up a search field in the Viewer to edit open input ports of an object that is selected, without touching the Editor. To solve scenarios where layers could be "on top" of other layers, one could just use up/down arrows to specify object selection in the Viewer, and see some kind of highlighting around the object to illustrate that this is the object being edited. So, one could move a model around in the Viewer, see that this is the current selected object (doesn't currently happen), and then type in "s", and be presented with the ability to choose scale x, y or z, and then manipulate it. Perhaps when one starts typing, you could see the chain associated with the object as a kind of drop down menu stack, where objects in the chain which have input ports that match what you are typing get presented to you for selection and editing. Going further, one could "pull/push" items in the "stack" to change patch orders. Maybe things like CI Patches could get "dropped" onto video/sprite combos and push to the "back of the chain", and then be pushed to a different place via a Viewer/Interaction stack. One could go really far with this principle, to the point where it augment the current method of editing nicely. -George Toledo On Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 12:39 AM, Keith Lang <[email protected]> wrote: > Forgive the slightly meta workflow question… > > > If you Command+Return to access Patch Library, type a few letters, > then hit Enter, you can add a new Patch to the Canvas, all using the > keyboard. > > I love this ninja workflow, and use it constantly. If you had a Sprite, would it make sense to type in an entry field "width" to access width, or does it make more sense to have all the things that can be done displayed in front of you (ala QC?). If the actual fx chain aspect of QC was abstracted, it seems like this would really work well. > > > > Keith. > _______________________________________________ > Do not post admin requests to the list.
