FWIW, I believe the Network Broadcaster/Receiver patches don't have any special 
packet structure - they just use the string data verbatim as the UDP packet. 
The gotcha though is that it's in network byte order UTF-32, and any incoming 
UDP packets that aren't in this encoding are silently ignored. 

Ruby may well handle incoming UTF-32 nicely, but you're probably finding it 
doesn't send in that encoding by default.
