Is is possible to use a vector file (eps,AI, swf) as the image input?
Yes to vector art, drag and drop your file onto the Editor window and an Image Importer patch is created with the path inputed. Change path string as required.

Pixel resolution is locked-down on PDFs. To get variable pixel res from PDFs try Kineme's PDF Renderer patch:
http://kineme.net/release/PDFRenderer/20090111

If you don't have a (free) Kineme account you need to create one and then enable beta patches in your account preferences to download / link to that page. Discussion of PDF Renederer plugin should occur on Kineme's forums. (I've had an issue but it's generally very good).

Also,
Is it possible to use a simple animation file like a .swf rather than a QT?
No, unless you have an early version of QT that supported .swf

Thanks,
Andrew
