yeah, the lack of proper documentation is a huge shortcoming of QC
(Christopher: hint, hint :).
As Achim said, it helps a lot to study other's compositions.
There are some useful resources anyway:

- The forums at http://kineme.net
- http://quartzcomposer.com/patches
Here at least you can find a short info about the functionality of all
the patches
As for written material - apart from Apple's three documents - there
is currently only one book available. Which is in Japanese. And I'm
pretty sure it's not available in Germany. I had a Japanese friend get
it for me. In Japan.
