Hey, don't have experience with those formats, but photo- and motion-jpeg codecs just works well without async mode. I can play 3 or 4 movies in the same time with 60 fps in my app CoGe (cogevj.hu) which basically using a simple movie importer patch (with external timebase) for movie playback with QCRenderers.
