Hi Guys,

First of all can I say a huge thank you to everyone on the list who has
helped me over the last year with all of my noobish questions that I've
posted. This isn't a question, but a little something I wanted to share!

Last year the company that I work for decided to overhaul our whole
broadcast system and switch to a Mac Based Playout, Scheduling and Graphics
system. We went round IBC and looked at all of the new technologies that
were available at the time and went with a company from Austria called
Tools On Air, some of you may heard of them (most likely Achim Breidenbach,
Boinx Software). They explained to us how their system ran off Quartz
Composer, and showed us some examples of graphics they had comprised for a
news channel in France.

So at this point I was selected to start designing and programming the
graphics for one of our current products for a relaunch, and my expedition
into the wonderful world of Quartz began! At first I found it impossible to
find any form of tutorials or beginners guide to Quartz. Seeing as the only
book about Quartz Motion Graphics has been constantly pushed back from
release, it was pretty hard at first. But then I discovered this mailing
list and everything started falling into place!

Yesterday evening we launched our new look channel on UK TV; Sky Channel
906 and Freeview Channel 96/94 using our Babestation brand. The graphics is
interactive via a PHP web page, sending messages to each individual machine
using the UDP protocol. The graphic is made up of separate components that
are loaded in via an XML configuration. Each component gets it's colouring,
positioning, timings etc from another XML file that is loaded with the
component at runtime. Dynamic videos and images can be loaded into each
component through the command messages from the PHP page, enabling our
producers to create content live on set and showcase it instantly, as well
as having a whole bundle of pre produced content at their disposal.

I'm sure it's all pretty basic stuff, after seeing some of the insane
things you guys do! But I'm just happy it's working and looks pretty smart!
If you want to check out Quartz running in the wild just tune in tonight
from 9pm on Sky and 11pm on Freeview. Otherwise here's a quick snap that I
took last night http://grab.by/cOny (i regard this as sfw), but seeing it
move does it justice!

It would be great to get some of your feedback and ideas for future
improvements!

Many thanks again!
Charlie

FYI, our channel is NSFW and contains adult material!
