I got a request to publish my "sollution" to this list. The thing was that the function didn't end up doing anything (it wasn't a closed circuit) so the values didn't get forwarded to the patches where I thought my data was missing from.
Solution: I put a "Image to String" and a "Billboard" as the last patch, while I completed the function. While I'm at it, I can really recommend (sort of) collision testing with the patch "Image Pixel", just make a separate image mask for the buttons and assign a unique color value to each button. Compare the current color with "String Compare". Saved me from a lot of complicated math.
