Come to think of it, maybe if you find an "old Version" of the js patch, it will work across all versions of qc? I've seen it restore in newer versions ok, it's just unpickable via the patch library.
I remember that the aurora "openCL" example on Apple's website had an old style js patch buried in it somewhere, to make some geometry with.
