To avoid stressing qubesd, which may cause the issue you suffered from, I suggest you unset the 'start VM automatically at boot' in the config for sys- net. Just having it for sys-firewall is enough (although I heard too many scary stories of not being presented with a login promt if either fails so I just disable all autostart). Important to realize is that the autostart is implemented as a systemd service, as such this works too (although it leaves qubes confused); systemctl disable [email protected] I had to do this because I had to move my sys-net to a different pool and delete the original VM.
