It's been a while since the last update on the status of donations and
IMHO there should be more regular updates on Qubes' financial status:
- people who have never thought about donating may then consider doing so.
- it would also serve as a reminder for people who have already donated
once and planned to donate again, but didn't see time flying (that'd be
me, hence this post: I thought I donated a few months ago but that was
already more than one year ago).
I know there's the "donate" tab on the website but I'd say that people
usually don't consider donating when they download the ISO (who would
donate before installing and testing the system ?). And then people
likely forget once everything's installed and working.
ML posts aren't optimal as they are likely to be read by only a subset
of Qubes' user base, so what about:
- displaying an informational window after first boot (with a content
similar to the web site's "donate" tab) or even after each update to a
.X version (eg. 4.0 -> 4.1) ?
- and/or, tweaking firefox's default home page in templates (like Fedora
does) and displaying Qubes' donation info/links there ?
Just thinking out loud here...
