Disadvantage of sticking with LVM2 is definitely the difficulty of recovery when metadata fills up. It's been happening less frequently since Marek expanded the default size, but before he did myself and others encountered thin pool corruption once it filled up and recovery was difficult and not guaranteed. I'd give up some speed for a more bulletproof system.
