To explain the usb stick, I keep a TAILS usb stick with me that has a copy of my keepassx db on it. Just in case I need to access this data while I'm away from any of my computers. It was this device that became corrupted, but only after massive IO abuse. I knew it would be toast sooner or later, but I always keep backups of this device as well.
