The idea of this mail thread is to keep an updated list of everything major or
relevant, which is broken or not working properly in Qubes 4 RC-2, as well as
design surprises for first time Qubes 4 users. For as long as it may remain
relevant, it'll simply be bumped to the top of the qubes user email list by new
posts or updates.

This thread is meant for both the technical experienced people with less time
invested in Qubes, and the less technical savy or experienced Qubes users, all
alike to find information. A community driven place to see whats up with Qubes
4.

Guidelines
* For every new post reporting, removal, edit or additions, please copy-paste
from the last post, and apply your update/report.

* Please keep the list tidy and brief, while any extra details regarding what
is on the list, can be discussed before or after the list itself.

* If something was unjustly removed or changed, please go back to earlier posts
and fix what was unjustly changed.

* This thread is following a Wiki kind of logic. This means the masses keeping
an eye on the information will help ensure information is closer to being
accurate.

* Feel free to discuss between list posts, but keep it brief so that no one has
to scroll through many posts to find the last list. Also keep it on-topic, no
lengthy discussions. Post a link to a new thread if you got something lengthy
to discuss.

Starting out, here are a few. This is relying on everyone helping keeping it up
to date. I did not go out of my way to find everything, please post if you see
something out of place, missing, or out of date.

Current community reported Qubes 4 RC-2 issues
- The Qubes template re-install feature is currently broken.
- Some templates may not work/run after install, seems random or situational
triggered, unknown cause.
- Despite some templates not working, some AppVM based on it, may paradoxically
work.
- Xfce4 shortcuts don't always get applied correctly for some templates/AppVM's.
- Entire AppVM's or specific apps may stop working with Qubes tools (Restart
required).
- Currently no Qubes-Windows-Tools, so while it may run, there is no
Qubes/Windows exchange capability.
- Freezing during install. It may just require a restart and try install again
to fix, or it may be freezing again.
- Python errors at last stage install. Seemingly may be avoidable by
reinstalling and changing settings.
- BTRFS is currently not supported toghether with LVM as it was in Qubes 3.2.
- PV mode may not always work even on some HVM capable systems, be aware of
PV/HVM VM modes, check or change it with qvm-prefs VM-name virt_mode
- Qubes 4 may require more frequent restats than Qubes 3.2, not only due to
fundamental system updates like Xen/Hypervisor/Kernel updates, but also for
example if Qubes tools run into bugs, like when unable to do qvm-run or
qvm-open-in-vm.
- Not all restarts fixes the qvm-run or qvm-open-in-vm issues and appear bugged
until patched or system re-install.
- Most Qubes guides has not been updated for Qubes 4, albeit many still work,
not all do.
- Ryzen CPU's still not properly working, possibly not until kernel 4.12+.
Qubes 4 RC-2 currently sits on kernel 4.9~
- Ryzen still boots (Qubes 4 RC-2), but many CPU features appear still broken.
- Ryzen seems to not boot with all UEFI/EFI installs, but boots with
Legacy/BIOS.
- There is currently no Qubes support for the expensive Secure Boot license,
please disable secure boot if you attempt to install with UEFI/EFI method.
- The efibootmgr ""appears"" broken on at least one ocation, which failed to
bring an EFI install back into the UEFI boot database.
- Wifi driver issues causing no network after suspend/hibernate, or even entire
dom0 kernel panic (sudden random restarts), still has to be blacklisted in the
sys-net VM like before. https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/wireless-troubleshooting/

Design changes that may surprise you
- Supported templates no longer need internet access to update or install
packages. Now done with Qubes tools, however still use same old commands.'
- Currently you need to update every Template with the VM's own commandline.
- Qubes Manager is replaced by a lesser informative widget.
- Backup tool is now through terminal. Relatively easy, but may seem scary at
first.
- Backup and backup-restore now only works properly through AppVM's, called via
dom0 terminal.
- Graphical App-menu update is now automatically starting/shutting-down
templates to app sync menu's, but the commandline is still manual.
- Qubes 4 installer may not run, or in the near futture be completely blocked
by design, if you do not meet minimum hardware security requirements.

Tips and community based guides to make Qubes 4 easier to use
- Apply 'qvm-run Vm-name App-name' or 'qvm-run -q -a --service -- VM-name
qubes.StartApp+App-name' to a keyboard shortkey in dom0. For example
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Key-letter-of-choice, or anything you like. Go to Qubes-menu -->
System-Tools --> Keyboard --> 'Application Shortcur' tab --> Click 'add', to do
so. Here are some examples if you'd like inspiration: CollateNote app for a
proper notetaking app on Ctrl+Shift+Alt+N. Offline folder based music playlists
in Audacious with Ctrl+Shift+Alt+M, offline thunderbird calender
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+K, or online email thunderbird Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E, calculator
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C. Feel free to copy, or alter your own creativie approach.

- Take the opportunity to use the pre-installed Xfce4 Whiskermenu plugin in
Qubes 4 instead of the default Xfce4 menu. Plugin was not included in dom0
Qubes 3.2, but it is in Qubes 4. This allows you to neatly and beautifully
organize all your favourte AppVM's and in whichever order you like in your
favourite list. You can also right click and edit their names, i.e. remove the
"domain" spam, or change the icons.

- Run "qvm-ls" to get a list of all your VM's, now that the Qubes Manager is no
more. You can practice it in Qubes 3.2 before transition to Qubes 4.

- Run "xl list" to get RAM useage of current running VM's. It's not ideal, but
it works. You can practice this on Qubes 3.2. as well.

Please keep it updated, remove, edit or add details as you see appropirate or
fitting. If you're unsure if something is should be modified, please ask or
point it out to others in this thread.

Any developers or more experienced users who happen to drop by, please feel
very welcome to edit any mistakes I made in the initial list. The same goes for
any future list postings made by others.
