Steve's advice wont work if you are using a usbVM, like sys-usb. Have a look at www.qubes-os.org/doc/usb/ which will explain how to use a USB stick in a qube. It's good practice not to attach USB sticks directly to dom0. It's also good practice not to copy untrusted files in to dom0. That's why Qubes make it relatively difficult.
