To future readers who own a ThinkPad X270: There is a USB C port, but it is NOT a Thunderbolt port. There was never any chance of getting the dock to work. If you want a ThinkPad X class with Thunderbolt, it should be in the X280 series and upwards probably. Thank you everybody for your time and for pitching in.
