Finally, we all agreed to solve this issue in the next way:
1) User clicks duplicate record on show screen, copy of the record appears
in the edit
template, trying to avoid duplicate Identifier value
2) Notice appears at top of edit template the first time the record copy is
edited that
says something like <div class="messages status">"This is a duplicate of
record
XYZ..."</div>
3) [OPTIONAL] Have validation that checks whether any values changed when
saving
the duplicate record -> jQuery, $('input, select, ...').change(function()
{...}));
