very slowly (RAD, MODS, DC)

To reproduce this error:

1) Select an installation with many place terms
2) Open the "events" (dates) dialog on the RAD, MODS or DC edit template
3) Click the "Place" autocomplete field
Resulting error:

The place autocomplete data will take a very long time to load (many
minutes for a large number of places)
Expected result:
================
Load time should not be directly (or exponentially?) dependent on number of
results, as we are only showing the first 10 hits.
