The search box and browse menu are actually center aligned in both
screenshots - but it looks unaligned in the first instance because the
right column (context menu) is empty.
The easiest fix would be to left align the search box + browse menu.
The *best* fix would be to collapse the right (context) column when there
is no context information to display (e.g. static pages) so the whole page
width can be used to display context. I'm not sure it's even possible to
collapse the right column using css though...
