Locally (Wu will contribute a patch), we have implemented this as follows:
- default sort order for authenticated user is recent changes
- default sort order for unauthenticated user (not logged in) is
alphabetical
The configuration aspect might be attempted later but it is low priority.
Most users would only be logging in to create/edit records, in which case
the recent changes view makes most sense.
