New issue 1965 by [email protected]: Authority record search
http://code.google.com/p/qubit-toolkit/issues/detail?id=1965
The public search searches only Authorized form of name. The following
fields should also be searchable:
Other names, History, Places, and Functions, occupations and activities.
If you were searching for a specific creator then you might use words in
either the authorized form of name or the other names so both are needed in
the default search.
If you were researching a particular area (eg effect of war/economic policy
etc on a region or city) then Places would pick up creators located there.
Note – while there is a Places access point for archival descriptions it is
more efficient to use Places against an authority record than to allocate a
Place access point to each archival description.
If you were researching particular industries (eg cattle farming, glass
manufacturing) or occupations (eg artists, astronomers) then searching on
Functions, occupations and activities would be useful. We are also
interested in attaching thesauruses to this field (extracts from the
Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Australian and New Zealand Standard
Industrial Classification and the National Library of Australia’s
Occupations Thesaurus) to guide entries.
‘Internal structures or genealogy’ might also be usefully searched if it
records hierarchies in an entity (eg names of office-bearers or divisions).
If possible, all other fields should be searchable for administrators, eg
you might want to search for all ‘partial’ status records for workplanning
or all persons under ‘type of entity’.
