Displaying nearby records at the fonds level when viewing a
fonds/collection level record
This is distracting and confusing. The point of the tree view is to enhance
users understanding of contextual relationships among descriptive records.
However, there is usually no contextual relationship among fonds records,
other than the fact that they were acquired by the same institution.
The presence of the tree view underneath the ‘Creator(s)’ list on the left
sidebar can lead the user to infer that the other fonds being displayed in
the tree view are associated with the same creator(s)
The titling text directly above the tree view is based on the level of
description of the currently selected record. Consequently, it sometimes
says “Collection” when a list of primarily fonds records fonds is being
displayed, and “Fonds” when collection records occupy the list.
