I'm running ntp 4.2.0.a on RHEL 4 amd_64. Recently I added my server to
pool.ntp.org. Shortly after the server goes live in the pool, ntpd
crashes (apparently without a core) and I get a "host out of memory [pid
of ntpd]" error in /var/log/messages.

It seems that the load of being in the pool causes ntpd to exceed some
memory threshold. Is this a known issue?

For what it's worth, I've tried to up the "locked memory limit" with a
ulimit in the startup script as per
http://fortytwo.ch/mailman/pipermail/timekeepers/2005/001588.html to no
avail.

Has anyone seen this issue?
