Well, yes, that's true, but unless sombody has selectively replaced
individual NTP components, they should all be the same.

You could also try

   ntpq -c 'rv 0 daemon_version' [hostname or "localhost"]

That actually queries the daemon on [hostname] or on the
system itself.
