As noted, the real xntpd is obsolete, although some distributors refused to change to the new name. Historically, it started as ntpd, then got renamed to xntpd to distinguish version 3 from the older version. It was renamed back to ntpd for the, current, version 4. > > That is, xntpd seems to always have port 123 open.
