The ATOM driver can't use anything else so all you can get is 1 bit for working or not. Isn't the reach bit mask good enough for that? Actually, there is a little more information. It checks each second, collects a batch of samples, and processes the batch when the poll routine is called. It would be slightly better to log a line in clockstats with a count of the batch size and/or maybe some quality indications. But that only matters if your setup is marginal. For anything simple/clean, it should be all or none. The reach bitmask will tell you if somebody has tripped over a cable. -- These are my opinions, not necessarily my employer's.
