(active) Linux Distributions ( and the BSDs ?) come with adequately
recent versions of ntpd ( even when LSB conventions masked this with
the usage of "xntp*" for the tools and rc-script for a certain timeframe )

Going by group postings versions of Solaris and other "real" unixes
seem to be mired in times gone by.
