One way to find out what you are (or were) running is to scan
/var/log/messages or wherever your syslog goes.

There should be something like this:
Jan  4 10:53:39 shuksan ntpd[24383]: ntpd [email protected] Tue Jan  4 
18:52:49 UTC 2011 (1)
(The date on the end is when the system was compiled.)
