If your machine has been sync'ed with a GPS PPS signal for a while, it's likely 
to have a very well calibrated drift for the local clock, and it's likely to 
keep entirely reasonable time until GPS signal is restored, even without 
talking to some other source of time every minute.

Why is polling remote ntpd's at poll interval of 10 an issue?
