More like 10, and it depends on what level of accuracy your require. it
roughly halves the error every hour (assuming a 16 second poll
interval-- slower with longer polls)

Speed is not one of ntpd's virtues. chrony is much faster, if you are
running linux or bsd ( and because of that is also much more accurate in
general-- ie it follows the changes in clock rate caused for example by
heating due to variable useage much better) (chrony does not exist for
Windows).
