My most humble apologies, In summary I tried windows ntpd on another box and
PPS works as it should.
I am now getting pps tally and GPS_NMEA(1) PPS_RELATE_PHASE in debug.
Before It worked the first box joined the GPS sentences together, not good.
So I ended up using an identical box to my freebsd ntp server and it works
perfectly.
This is where I wanted to be! As they say in America, Dang!
Anyway, I will confirm by trying drives in other systems but it seems a serial
port problem with HP servers.
So far I have tried
DL360 G1 - PPS relate none
DL360 G5 - GPS sentences joined together.
The boxen ntpd works fine on is a pair of old HP procurve 760wl wireless lan
controllers.
These have a pc system board with an intel P4 celeron and hardisk etc.
basically a rack mount PC.
As I said I will try the same model DL series but with different hardware and
see if PPS works.
I do hope it's not a design problem with the HP servers.
