And you did this why? To test ntpd? Why would you do that? ntpd does not like something else changing the clock from under it. It cannot tell if that is due to some horrible severe hardware fault, due to the remote servers going crazy or what. There is a bug in ntpd that means that it cannot read the mind of the operator of the computer.
