Thank you for all of your help, and the very fast responses. I ended up doing an external call from my server using a NTP socket connection and converting the results.
I then noticed that post#3 does in fact include exactly what I was looking for among the rest of the detailed code after all: http://currentmillis.com/api/millis-since-unix-epoch.php Very cool, simple service that does just what I needed.
