Hello, I'm trying to set up an NTP server on an RHEL 6.1. Synchronization via *ntpdate *seems to work fine and apparently everything works OK seing it as a *client*, however, the server itself its not working, it shows a *stratum* of 16 and never decreases.
My */etc/ntp.conf *is as follows: restrict 127.0.0.1 restrict -6 ::1 restrict 192.168.75.21 mask 255.255.255.0 nomodify notrap server 192.168.50.233 fudge 127.127.1.0 stratum 10 driftfile /var/lib/ntp/drift keys /etc/ntp/keys The output of diagnostics command is: [root@AdminSoa ~]# ntpq -p remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter ============================================================================== dc1.adretail.co .LOCL. 1 u 39 64 377 0.814 -988.65 5.021 [root@AdminSoa ~]# ntpq -c rv assID=0 status=c011 sync_alarm, sync_unspec, 1 event, event_restart, version="ntpd 4.2.4p8@1.1612-o Thu May 13 14:38:25 UTC 2010 (1)", processor="x86_64", system="Linux/2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.x86_64", leap=11, stratum=16, precision=-23, rootdelay=0.000, rootdispersion=120.870, peer=0, refid=INIT, reftime=00000000.00000000 Thu, Feb 7 2036 3:28:16.000, poll=6, clock=d75d6739.a45ee55e Tue, Jul 1 2014 12:58:33.642, state=1, offset=0.000, frequency=0.000, jitter=0.000, noise=0.000, stability=0.000, tai=0 [root@AdminSoa ~]# ntpdate -d 192.168.50.233 1 Jul 13:00:40 ntpdate[19067]: ntpdate 4.2.4p8@1.1612-o Thu May 13 14:38:25 UTC 2010 (1) Looking for host 192.168.50.233 and service ntp host found : dc1.adretail.corp transmit(192.168.50.233) receive(192.168.50.233) transmit(192.168.50.233) receive(192.168.50.233) transmit(192.168.50.233) receive(192.168.50.233) transmit(192.168.50.233) receive(192.168.50.233) transmit(192.168.50.233) server 192.168.50.233, port 123 stratum 1, precision -6, leap 00, trust 000 refid [LOCL], delay 0.04140, dispersion 0.00026 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d75cdf8f.5e5f3af8 Tue, Jul 1 2014 3:19:43.368 originate timestamp: d75d67b7.ae7fff94 Tue, Jul 1 2014 13:00:39.681 transmit timestamp: d75d67b8.acdd0baf Tue, Jul 1 2014 13:00:40.675 filter delay: 0.04155 0.04143 0.04143 0.04140 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: -0.99304 -0.99330 -0.99350 -0.99369 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.04140, dispersion 0.00026 offset -0.993690 1 Jul 13:00:40 ntpdate[19067]: step time server 192.168.50.233 offset -0.993690 sec [root@AdminSoa ~]# service ntpd restart Shutting down ntpd: [ OK ] Starting ntpd: [ OK ] I aslo find it weird (not sure if its important) that when I restart the service, it isn't trying to synchronize. Anyone can give me a hand on this? I've tried several different things and nothing... Thanks!
