This is *only* if ntpd accepts this time source as "system peer".

Does the fact that in my output of ntpq I can't see any star means that no one 
is filling the memory with good values or that NTPD has having some troubles 
with shared memory segments?

How about just running "ntpq -p" and showing us the output?
