Hi all,
Forwarding this FYI. Using another transport protocols such as QUIC
could be one of the aspects discussed during that side-meeting (e.g.
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-michel-ssh3/)
Cheers,
François

Sujet : [saag] Side-meeting at IETF120 on improving SSH

Hi folks,
After discussion with the sec ADs, we think that this could be the right
time to hold a side meeting at IETF 120 for discussing new work and
general improvements concerning the SSH protocol.
Depending on the discussions from this side meeting (i.e. if there is an
interest from people and implementers), the outcome could be a base
charter text for the creation of a new BoF or WG regarding SSH improvements.
This follows a presentation of a proposal for SSH + HTTP/3 at IETF 119
ALLDISPATCH session. The dispatch outcome was to start a BoF, but we
decided to go broader and more general with first a side-meeting
covering SSH protocol improvements (this draft could be one of several
topics discussed, but the meeting aims for SSH improvements in general).
We would like to gauge how many people would be interested in
participating to the side-meeting, gather a list of topics to discuss,
and have implementers feedback on the meeting and topics.
Many topics can be proposed and you are encouraged to submit your ideas
and opinions to prepare the meeting adequately. Topics may for instance
include the use of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms, new
authentication mechanisms, certificates, new protocols, etc.
Deb has opened the [email protected] mailing list and we propose to use that
one to propose topics and ideas for the meeting (please send your
e-mails to both saag and ssh lists for now to ensure everyone receives
it). That mailing list can then later be used for the resulting
SSH-related WG if there is one.
We know that for a WG to be successful, we need momentum from the
community and from implementers, and we will keep that in mind for the
different topics discussed during the meeting. :-)
Looking forward to reading your ideas and feedback !
Best,
François
