1. The Making of "Gunner Palace"

In March, 2003, documentary filmmaker Michael Tucker arrived in Iraq to
capture the day-to-day experiences of the 2-3 Field Artillery Battalion
(known as the Gunners) stationed in Uday Hussein's former palace in the
most volatile area in Baghdad.
"This is not about the politics," says Tucker. "This is about the the
war from the inside out, told by the people caught in the middle.
"In the beginning, the soldiers were very optimistic across the board.
No matter what they thought about the war, they felt they were doing
something good. By the time I was there the second time, I think people
felt exhausted and ready to go home. You could only take so much. You�re
going between boredom and this extreme hyperreality. And at the same
time there's a disconnect because people in the rest of the world don�t
understand what�s happening to you."

As you read in the previous issue of QuickTime News, the H.264 video
codec will take digital video delivery to new levels of efficiency and
visual clarity in the upcoming release of QuickTime 7. In future issues,
you'll learn about a number of industry consortia and solutions based on
this new standard for video.
One of the main industry forums that furthers the development and use of
H.264 (a.k.a. MPEG-4 Part 10) is the MPEG Industry Forum. This large
group of companies carries out interoperability testing to ensure that
