*Yes* +500 from me :-)

I had the same idea recently as I have just re-designed and
re-deployed my site using Plone 3 (and using QuillsEnabled). I found
that the approach you propose made more sense in the Plone 3
environment and was planning on trying my hand at making such a 'Blog
View'. I also gather all blog posts into a collection and display with
the 'summary view' on the homepage and thus the normal Quills view
doesn't apply there - but could with a 'Blog View'.

I'm willing to test and may be able to help with the template if
necessary.

Suggestion: would it make sense with this change to incorporate a
'lead image' in the 'Blog View' to help make it less text heavy? With
QuillsEnabled there doesn't seem to be a way to display a image with
the post summary (or at lease I haven't found it yet!). One way could
be done using http://plone.org/products/content-lead-image and just
displaying the image in the view if it exists.

Cheers,

Duane
