Could this be the old PTL vs SQLObject import problem? See:

I believe changing the import order and/or delaying the call to
enable_ptl is a workaround.

I don't think so. I did try it but to no avail. I've been forced to
re-create the old setup (or something close to it) on my one and only
development machine so I'm back in business. Meanwhile I'm going to have a
look at porting the app to TurboGears.
