I think it's a bad idea. Mozilla had a strong brand before splitting off Firefox. KDE is a strong brand, and Kdiff3 isn't. If you want to avoid the confusion which people had concerning Wengo, WengoPhone, OpenWengo, etc, it is best to have one brand which identifies both the software and the project, until such time as there is a compelling reason (such as a second project and millions of users) to change that.
