The chat I had over on freenode #qutecom sums up my question: Session Start: Tue Aug 31 20:18:30 2010 Session Ident: #qutecom 03[20:18] * Now talking in #qutecom 03[20:18] * Topic is 'QuteCom is a Voice-over-IP application for Linux, MacOSX and Windows. It's the successor of WengoPhone - http://www.qutecom.org/ ][ Documentation and Howtos http://trac.qutecom.org/wiki ][ Report build issues to the qutecom-dev mailing list http://lists.qutecom.org/mailman/listinfo/qutecom-dev ][ Bugs and Feature requests http://trac.qutecom.org/report ][ Be precise if you ask questions. 03[20:18] * Set by chithead on Fri Oct 30 08:27:03 01[20:18] <darrin> hey 01[20:18] <darrin> anyone here on the dev team? 01[20:20] <darrin> better question: Anyone here? [20:21] <chithead> an even better question would ask for information and not for people 01[20:22] <darrin> :) ok im an old fart havent used irc in probably 15 years 01[20:22] <darrin> I used Quteconvert.py (I think was the script name) 01[20:22] <darrin> But it dosent quite suit my needs 01[20:23] <darrin> I am rewriting it probably in bash cuz im more comfy in bash 01[20:23] <darrin> i was looking for something a little more plaintext for the wgcard spec than the include files 01[20:24] <darrin> My situation is thus: 01[20:25] <darrin> My company loves me and gave me a [[:used:]] mac white powerbook 01[20:25] <darrin> im wanting to map my custom field address book export (vcard group=all) 01[20:26] <darrin> into contacts.xml :) [20:26] <chithead> probably it is best to write to the mailing list for that 01[20:27] <darrin> so... export mac addrBook --> my script --> nice clean unified contact entry :) 01[20:27] <darrin> and we all dance and sacrifice an encryption key to the electron gods 01[20:27] <darrin> Ill hit the Mailing List ;)
To clarify, In the MacOS address book app, I have created custom fields almost 1:1 of what contacts.xml contains. I utilized the python script from the dev pages and the resultant output was less than ideal for my situation. I am not too familiar with python. (Mild understatement, i can't even spell it) Direct import of the addr[[:something:]] native format export from OSX is beyond my capabilities. I am planing to create (and share ) a script whos sole purpose is to convert the vCard2 dump from the dump into wgcard formatted strings and produce usable entries in contacts.xml. probably shell or worse case perl I'd like to find a more human readable spec for the wgcard. Not like a rfc post or anything but something that would assist in the understanding the constants and variables. Direct question of relevance: The <im> sub(?)item <account>{Some-sort-of-hash-here}</account> Can that be left blank in contacts.xml and regenerated when qutecom is reinitialized? Thank you -- J. Darrin McDougald
