I definitely agree.
But what I think it would be even better is to use the FindXXX.cmake
scripts provided by cmake, rather than using custom ones.
two notes:
* in this specific case, even cmake's one appears to be broken, but then
cmake developers are in charge of fixing it.
* this bugs appears to be Debian/Ubuntu specific, because of the multi-
arch support being implemented
