Depends on what OS you're running. Anything before Vista my favorite virtual 
MIDI cable is the Sonic Foundry virtual MIDI router. After that you have to go 
with other options like MIDIYoke or some of the other options.
I like BassMIDI for sound fonts, because it installs as a Windows device 
instead of as a VST. Avoid the 2.x versions because they have latency issues.
