This is a vast question. Manufacturers implement these things in many ways. And though some things are almost always included, everything, and I mean everything in MIDI is optional. (Yes, even note on, note off, channel, and MIDI mode) Name something you think MIDI always have to do and I can tell you a piece of gear that doesn't use it. Hate to keep sounding like a broken record here, but check your instrument's MIDI Implementation Chart. This is going to tell you how the instrument responds to MIDI. They're not hard to read, and it'll often tell you things you never suspected. This is your first place to look for information about your gear. Back in the day it was the last page of the manual, inside the back cover, but that's changed a bit and you'll need to check your table of contents to find it. Check the top to be sure how it codes yes and no, often with an X or * or o, and take your time working through the list. You may also find patch numbers for drum kits in the patch list. If you have these you're going to be able to access them from MIDI. Often these are available on channel 10 and/or 11, sometimes 16. It'll make your job a lot easier if you can find an instrument definition file for QWS. Barring that find it for Cakewalk and use Gavin Grundling's Instavert program to convert it. (Works great)

The Keyboards I have have such an ammount of drum kits with lots of samples, that I think it could be practical to use those for such Things as well. Can QWS help here or can such Things only be used with Special Software for the specific Keyboard Model? The drums could be used for replacing a drum machine or to enrich them, since lots of drum kits in such devices have drum Computer samples in them. Thank you.
