Hi Nicole, thanks for that. I will investigate. Hope it’s the easy way, sound too dam complicated the second way. Or, as you say, find a nicer clarinet sound.

Everything goes back to the MIDI Implementation Chart on this kind of stuff. Check it for your sound source and find out what controllers it supports. The one you're looking for is CC73, though the device might do attack time a different way. This is easiest, because it will let you play with it using your mod wheel remapped in QWS to get the value you want. If that isn't an option look to Non-Registered Parameter Numbers and find out if your device will let you change envelope settings using NRPN values. This will involve three to four MIDI messages, 99 for your broad parameter group, 98 for the specific parameter, 6 for the value you want to send, then maybe 38 for the fine value, though many parameters don't need 16,384 levels in the parameter so this last one gets left off. This will be something more of a pain to play with, and it'll take some experimentation. If your sound source does neither of these things then it gets ugly, possibly mean and ugly, because as you suspected you're going to need to do volume (CC7) or expression (CC11) swells to take the bite off the attack. If your goal is to sharpen the attack then it's even more of a mess because you're going to need to do fast swells from 0 to whatever is your target to clip the front of the envelope and then offset the track a bit back so the notes hit where you want them to sound in the track. Unless you're really good at using this technique and your timing is excellent you won't be able to quantize anything either so you might get sloppy timing on the notes. So hope CC73 is on your chart and you can do it the simplest way. The other option is to use another clarinet sound that fits what you're looking for. I know this is a bit esoteric in part of it. Did I get fuzzy anywhere and need to do more 'splaining? I need to change the attack on each note, can this be done with midi controller numbers? Would I have to do each individual note or can I do this as the whole track? can anyone give me any tips on how this is done? n BTo unsubscribe or change list options, see http://lists.andrelouis.com for archived list posts, see http://www.mail-archive.com/qws@andrelouis.com To unsubscribe or change list options, see http://lists.andrelouis.com for archived list posts, see http://www.mail-archive.com/qws@andrelouis.com To unsubscribe or change list options, see http://lists.andrelouis.com for archived list posts, see http://www.mail-archive.com/qws@andrelouis.com
